How we ranked them

We read owners; we do not lab-test. Every claim is held to the maker's own page. Our full method

  • Owner reports25 sources, written after a winter of wear
  • Maker specs5 maker pages: zones, battery, care
  • Runtime by settingHours on high, medium and low
  • Safety listingsBattery marks and CPSC recalls
Why a Top 5, not a Top 7

A DEWALT vest was considered, but its maker pages give no zone count, runtime or battery size, and we could not find owner reviews to read. With nothing to check, it is left out.

Heated vests for women, men and tall sizes

The panels warm you only where they touch, so fit matters. Every pick has a women's version; two come in tall sizes.

A woman in a long gray puffer vest walking along a lakeside path on a cold, gray day

The best heated vest for women

ORORO's women's Classic (FVC-41): the same four zones, heated collar included, in XS to 3XL. For shoulder heat too, Venustas sells a women's W2118.

The best heated vest for men, big and tall

The ORORO Classic for most men, with tall MT to 2XT. Big and tall: Venustas runs S to 5XL plus tall LT to 3XLT, in black.

Between sizes? Measure over the layer you wear under the vest, then use the maker's chart, not your jacket size.

How to choose a heated vest

Owners say three things decide it: heat where they get cold, a battery that lasts the outing, and a close cut.

Heat zones: where the heat goes

Match the panels to where you get cold; more zones is not automatically warmer.
  • Chest and back: the core zones every vest here has in some form. Enough for stands and job sites.
  • Collar: the zone ORORO owners mention most. Worth it if your neck gets cold first.
  • Hand pockets and shoulders: nice extras that draw more power from the same battery.

Battery life by setting

Read the hours per setting, not one headline number: high runs about 2 to 5 hours here.
  • Warm up on high, then drop: every maker's longest figure is on low. Gobi Heat and Venustas have a pre-heat mode, and Gobi's drops from high to medium by itself.
  • Bigger packs are rated on low: ORORO PD 7K up to 13.5 h, Venustas Pro 7.5K and Max 10K up to 13 h and 20 h, Fieldsheer XL 4,000 mAh.
  • Dedicated pack or tool battery: a dedicated pack may charge a phone (ORORO's does); a tool battery (Milwaukee M12) shares what you already own.
  • Check the box: ORORO includes a cable but no wall charger.

Controls

Most vests use a three-setting button; Fieldsheer adds an app, watch and Siri.
  • Milwaukee offers app control through its M12 Heated Gear Power Source.
  • Venustas publishes the temperature of each setting; Fieldsheer gives a range of about 90°F to 135°F.

Fit and layering

Wear it close: over a base layer, under a shell.
  • Owners say heat is felt faster with the vest next to a base layer and a shell on top.
  • A boxy cut, or a vest sized up to go over a coat, puts the panels away from the body and wastes the heat.

Care and warranty

Wash often? Only Fieldsheer and Milwaukee list the dryer as safe.
  • Fieldsheer allows tumble dry low; Milwaukee is washer and dryer safe; ORORO and Venustas say air dry.
  • ORORO and Venustas cover the heating elements for 3 years and the battery for 1 year; Gobi Heat and Fieldsheer give 1 year.

How to wash a heated vest

All five can be machine washed once the battery is out. Where makers differ, the label on your vest wins.

  • 15 minutes, plus drying
  • Mild detergent
  • Mesh laundry bag
  • Drying rack or hanger
  1. Take the battery outUnplug the pack, push the cable back into its pocket and zip every pocket shut.
  2. Wash cold and gentle, in a mesh bagORORO and Venustas ask for a laundry bag; Fieldsheer, a cold, gentle cycle. Skip bleach.
  3. Dry it the way the label saysSee the Dryer column above. ORORO and Fieldsheer rule out ironing and dry cleaning.
  4. Reconnect only when it is fully dryCheck the battery pocket and connector; charge the pack away from the damp vest.

Heated vest safety basics

The rules are about the lithium battery and its charger. Follow the maker's manual, including its warnings on who should not use heated clothing.

Check for recalls

Heated socks from two brands were recalled in 2025 and 2026. Search your exact model at cpsc.gov/Recalls before you buy, and once a season.

Flying with a heated vest

The FAA allows lithium-ion batteries up to 100 Wh in carry-on bags and bans spares from checked bags. Check the Wh on your pack and carry it with you, terminals protected.

Heated vest questions owners ask

What is the best heated vest?

For most people, the ORORO Classic Heated Vest (men's MVC-41, women's FVC-41). It has four heat zones including a heated collar, the maker rates its stock battery at about 10 hours on low, and it comes in men's, women's and tall cuts. For long, still days outside the Gobi Heat Dune lasts longest on high, and for job sites on M12 batteries the Milwaukee M12 Heated AXIS Vest fits best.

Who makes the best heated vest?

No single brand wins every use. In our list ORORO is best overall, Gobi Heat suits long cold sits, Venustas has the most heat zones and the widest sizes, Fieldsheer (Mobile Warming) adds phone and watch control, and Milwaukee suits trades already on its M12 tool batteries.

What is the best heated vest for women?

ORORO's women's Classic (FVC-41) is our pick: the same four zones as the men's vest, heated collar included, in sizes XS to 3XL. Gobi Heat, Venustas (W2118), Fieldsheer and Milwaukee also sell women's versions of the vests on this list.

How long does a heated vest battery last?

On the five vests here, makers rate the stock battery at about 2 to 5 hours on high and 8 to 10 hours on low. Optional bigger packs stretch low to 13 to 20 hours. Owners report less time on high in hard cold, so carry a spare battery for a long day.

Are heated vests safe to wear?

Used the way the maker's manual says, yes: use the maker's own battery and charger, look for a UL or cUL listing on the pack, never charge a wet pack, take the battery out before washing, and check the CPSC recall list before you buy.

Are heated vests worth it?

Owners who stand or sit still in the cold for hours, such as on hunting stands, sidelines, job sites and long dog walks, are the ones who keep wearing them. If you are mostly moving, a regular insulated layer may be all you need.

How do you wash a heated vest?

Take the battery out, tuck the cable and zip every pocket, then wash on a cold, gentle cycle in a mesh laundry bag. Dry it the way the label says: ORORO and Venustas say air dry only, Fieldsheer allows a low tumble dry, and Milwaukee lists its vest as washer and dryer safe.
