Heated mattress pad care: washing it like a blanket

How to Wash a Heated Blanket Without Damaging the Wiring
Cold, gentle and short, the way the makers give it.
Heated mattress pad buying basics
Check your bed first
Not on waterbeds, adjustable, pull-out or many memory-foam beds (Sleep Foundation, Sunbeam).
Dual zones by size
Beautyrest's Deep Pocket: two zones on Queen, King and Cal King.
Shut-off and preheat
Sunbeam pads shut off after 10 hours; some preheat for 30 minutes.
Washes like a blanket
Sunbeam gives the same steps as for its blankets.
Heated mattress pad questions owners ask
Can you wash a heated mattress pad the same way as a blanket?
For Sunbeam, yes: its combined manual gives the same steps for blanket, mattress pad and throw (cord detached, cold water, gentle cycle). Check your own label first.
Can you use a heated mattress pad and a heated blanket together?
No. Sunbeam's manual says not to use another heating device with its products, so pick one or the other.
Is a heated mattress pad better than an electric blanket?
It depends on the sleeper and the bed. A pad suits cold sleepers who want the bed warm before they get in; a blanket also works on the couch and on beds a pad cannot go on. Our comparison sets them side by side.
